Chapter One:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the first person narrative?
An Advantage is that you see through that persons eyes and the way they feel about what happens during the book, but a disadvantage can that you only see through one characters perspective and not the others kids.
Why do you think Ellie needs to tell the story in chronological order?
So the reader knows the order things went in and what happened during each time the events happened.
Pick one interesting word from the chapter, find its meaning , and explain why it is interesting?
An interesting word to me was undergrowth. Undergrowth is a dense growth of shrubs ad under trees in woodland. It is interesting to me because of how they have used this word to make it more interesting when reading instead of some word that can be boring, or uninteresting.
John Marsden foreshadows several events and characters in this chapter. Make three predictions based on the evidence in the text about what may occur later on in the story?
My first event is that during there trip in hell they could get lost or something terrible could happen over night.
Second Prediction is on their way to hell and Tailor's Stitch the car could break down or they could crash.
A last prediction is that during their stay they might realise that they couldn't be that independent on there own and need to head home.
What kind of story do you think Ellie is going to tell?
A story that is going to be very interesting and tell some really meaningful and important events that the reader can learn from.
What set of skills do these characters have that convince their parents that they can 'go bush' independently?
A skill of begging and being able to make their parents believe and trust them that they can do this without a parent or adult needed.
